Shinichiro’s sound installation features an immersive sound experience with Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 channels, blending analog elements like cassette tapes with contemporary soundscapes.
Together, their project encourages reflection on the interplay of the rhythm of life and silence, deepening the understanding of existence and the possibilities within emptiness.

We look forward to seeing you there.

WORLD SHIFTERS N°4 & N°5
Geng Xue & Runa Ikeda: Oneiroi

Event photo: Geng Xue海公⼦ - Mr. Sea , 2014 - 2023 (still), stop - motion - animation, single-channel video, 13'15" min, courtesy the artist and gallery Migrant Bird Space, Berlin

In Greco-Roman mythology, the Oneiroi (dreams) are the many children of Nyx (night) and Hypnos (sleep). Led by the brothers Morpheus, Phobetor and Phantasos, they are the changeable and large family of dreams that create and direct the images of our sleep and imagination. In this role, they provide the appropriate title and theme for the final edition of our exhibition series CHANGING WORLDS on contemporary forms of magical realism and surrealism at the Kunstverein Göttingen.
This final presentation of the exhibition series in 2024 is entirely dedicated to the multimedia installations of the two artists Geng Xue and Runa Ikeda. In their individual groups of works, the artists from China and Japan both combine the aesthetics and narratives of their diverse home cultures with personal content in a unique, dreamlike expressiveness. In Geng Xue's work, the finest porcelain sculptures dominate, while in Runa Ikeda's it is colorful paintings on large fabric banners. In this way, both create an inspiring, visual world between reality, dream and story. The finale in the exhibition rooms of the Old Town Hall in Göttingen brings the two world designs of the artists together for the first time worldwide, makes new connections visible and expands the fantastic potential of their works.

Runa Ikeda was born in Japan in 1988 and completed her design and art studies in 2010 at the Tokyo Academy of Design in the master class of illustration. The unique world of her paintings, sculptures and performances quickly attracted attention in the art world of Japan and Germany, and she has taken part in numerous group exhibitions and has already held five solo exhibitions in galleries in Tokyo and Berlin. She is the winner of the Scott Hall Gallery Award and the Creative Award in Tokyo, Japan. In 2012 she also received the Special Award at the Germany Art Festival in Berlin.
Runa Ikeda lives with her husband Shinichiro Ikeda in Berlin. Together they run their studio there, where sound art, visual art and performance are created in a mutually enriching way.

Geng Xue graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing (2007) and the Karlsruhe University of Art and Design (2013) before receiving her MFA from CAFA (2014). Her work has been shown in numerous international exhibitions, including the Sydney Biennale (2018), the Venice Biennale (2017), and the Busan Biennale (2014). In 2017, Geng Xue was shortlisted for Young Artist of the Year at the Award of Art China (AAC). The artist currently lives and works in Beijing and teaches sculpture at CAFA.

ka32.gallery is thrilled to announce “Polyes,” an evocative exhibition showcasing the works of eight distinguished artists: Loutje Hoekstra, Rei Zukidou, Franco D. Sosio, Stefano Bosis, Enrico Basta, Julia Flux, Ming Lu, and Runa Ikeda.

The exhibition invites viewers to explore the delicate balance between vulnerability and strength, the conscious and unconscious mind, and the dynamic interplay of instinctual and intellectual forces, all within the broader context of human transformation and interconnectedness. The artists collectively embody the concept of “multitudes of being,” portraying the diverse facets of the human condition through their unique artistic lenses. The title “Polyes” is derived from the Greek word for “many,” symbolizing the diverse and multifaceted nature of the human experience as explored in this exhibition. Each artist brings their distinct perspective, creating a rich tapestry that illustrates the complexity and interconnectedness of our existence. “Polyes” encapsulates the essence of this thematic journey, emphasizing the myriad ways in which we navigate the balance between vulnerability and strength, the conscious and unconscious, and the instinctual and intellectual.

“Polyes” invites viewers to immerse themselves in a journey through human fragility, transformation, and the quest for balance. Each artist brings a unique perspective, offering a rich tapestry of emotions, stories, and insights that challenge and inspire.

Join us for the opening reception on 22 June.

Duo Exhibition with Karin Knutsson in Anzengruberstraße 12, 12043 Berlin, Germany

15th,Nov(Fri) 7pm - 17th,Nov(Sun) at 6pm

Opening party 15th,Nov (Fri) from 7pm.

In year 11.01, a 3 year old girl sits in her room, looking at the clouds. Suddenly a ray of light comes out of the sky, a light so strong and blinding it obliterates everything around her. The light transforms into shapes and patterns, reminiscent of fire and smoke, creating objects of constantly changing color and form. The abstractions slowly transform into figures, reminiscent of humans, animals and combinations of colorful creatures.
The child grew up to be Hildegard of Bingen, a nun who excelled in music, science and philosophy. In the exhibition 生ける光の影, which translates "the shadow of the living light", Runa Ikeda and Karin Knutsson focus on the otherworldly visions she experienced from early childhood until her death.
